Lights Along the Runway * Imagining Your Flight Into Death

Sogyal Rinpoche, author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, suggests that we think about death often, that we include it consciously within the daily living of our life. Indeed, in the Buddhist Path, blessings and rituals of preparation for death precede as well as accompany the event of death.  I have come to realize that this exercise can also be applied to our deaths in other lifetimes, other places.

When death comes, let it be no stranger to be feared, but an old friend to take us home. In shamanic, transformative meditation we may spontaneously find ourselves journeying to the  moment in time when we will leave, once again, this very familiar world…

One of the most important journeys a shaman takes is the one to assist a soul who is leaving the body in death… I made this journey with my father at his hour of death – a surprising, unexpected enlightment in my training as a solitary shaman.

In the healing of others, the “made” – or trained – shaman takes Flight whenever he or she receives the call.  But each of us has Wings, though we so seldom use them, for shamanism is a natural gift of the Soul. Who knows? Your first practice taxis down the runway of Death may be the initiation you have been waiting for, without knowing it…

Shaman Kitaro * Aquarius, Kokoro, Bridge Between Worlds

Kitaro is an Aquarian (Februrary 4, 1953), one  who exemplifies this Sign’s unusual gifts, so often lifting talent into the realms of channelled inspiration.

His music sounds as if it comes to us direct from the planet of Aquarius – the big, eccentric and very beautiful Uranus.

Recognized as the pioneer and founder of New Age music, Kitaro’s Japanese Zen master calls him setu, which means bridge between worlds (which is also the meaning of the Shaman). I think of Kitaro as a living Silk Road between East and West, between Heaven and Earth.

About Carol and Silk Road Visions

Carol At Home

This is the online home of Carol Leigh Rice, MA,  devoted mom, semi-retired psychic and astrologer, solitary shaman, and former academic (political science).

I am also an Aquarian, and very typical indeed of this Sun Sign. I work best alone, though my focus tends to always be on others – whether indivdiuals, nations, societies or communities…

With Uranus as the ruler of Aquarius, I shock and surprise myself as much as others with my interests, choices and decisions. Having Libra Rising, however, makes Venus the ruler of my chart, and these influences soften – over time – much of the drama which predictably but unexpectedly comes into my life. I write a lot about Aquarius and its dramatic Age here on Silk Road Visions.

I am blessed – and deeply challenged – with a Balsamic Moon in my birth chart, and I discuss this extraordinary life influence in one of my most detailed and popular posts.

In fact, this whole blog is really my book, the one I have yet to write, the one everyone has told me to write for most of my life.  Somehow, though, it seems more natural to let the chapters on all these different dimensions of spiritual life simply unfold here – so much is channelled – for each visitor to find what appeals to them at this moment in their lives.

And, like the Silk Road, over which travelled everything from silk and spice to books, philosophy and medicine, my blog here covers many topics, from astrology to shamanism, personal healing and the political world which we all share…

I have explored and self-trained in a new shamanism which seems to bridge both East and West; the vital link between psyche, symbol and transformation was first shown me in meditation and further revealed in the life readings which followed.

I have worked for psychiatrists and psychologists as an office manager/secretary; as a mature student and single mom I obtained a BA and MA in political science; along the way I spent over 30 years in part-time and  full-time work as a medical transcriptionist – in hospital or online –  immersed in the medical world of surgeries, consultations, hospital admission and discharge reports for all disciplines within medicine.

So I see myself as  a Life Counsellor with special credentials and from time to time I still offer Silk Road Astrology Readings – highly personalized, hand-and-soul-crafted for each person who consults me.

Lessons From India’s Successful One-Year Anti-Farm Law Protests

A huge convoy of vehicles camping out in the capital and other major cities to protest in action what was imposed without democratic consent; thousands of men and women from all walks of life giving up their day jobs to follow the convoys, determined to help out in any way they could; mainstream media and governments demonizing and demeaning the protestors, painting them ignorant, led by outsiders – impossible they could be doing all this by themselves…

Governments stubbornly refused to recognize that where significant dissent exists, government must be a process of compromise, not imposed – “the majority” can also be a tyranny.

India’s Farmers End Anti-Farm Law Protests after a year...

Sound familiar? Yes, but this was not the Canadian Freedom Convoy of truckers protesting vaccine mandates and other issues in Canadian politics. This happened in a huge democracy, far, far away…
