About Carol and Silk Road Visions

Carol At Home

This is the online home of Carol Leigh Rice, MA,  devoted mom, semi-retired psychic and astrologer, solitary shaman, and former academic (political science).

I am also an Aquarian, and very typical indeed of this Sun Sign. I work best alone, though my focus tends to always be on others – whether indivdiuals, nations, societies or communities…

With Uranus as the ruler of Aquarius, I shock and surprise myself as much as others with my interests, choices and decisions. Having Libra Rising, however, makes Venus the ruler of my chart, and these influences soften – over time – much of the drama which predictably but unexpectedly comes into my life. I write a lot about Aquarius and its dramatic Age here on Silk Road Visions.

I am blessed – and deeply challenged – with a Balsamic Moon in my birth chart, and I discuss this extraordinary life influence in one of my most detailed and popular posts.

In fact, this whole blog is really my book, the one I have yet to write, the one everyone has told me to write for most of my life.  Somehow, though, it seems more natural to let the chapters on all these different dimensions of spiritual life simply unfold here – so much is channelled – for each visitor to find what appeals to them at this moment in their lives.

And, like the Silk Road, over which travelled everything from silk and spice to books, philosophy and medicine, my blog here covers many topics, from astrology to shamanism, personal healing and the political world which we all share…

I have explored and self-trained in a new shamanism which seems to bridge both East and West; the vital link between psyche, symbol and transformation was first shown me in meditation and further revealed in the life readings which followed.

I have worked for psychiatrists and psychologists as an office manager/secretary; as a mature student and single mom I obtained a BA and MA in political science; along the way I spent over 30 years in part-time and  full-time work as a medical transcriptionist – in hospital or online –  immersed in the medical world of surgeries, consultations, hospital admission and discharge reports for all disciplines within medicine.

So I see myself as  a Life Counsellor with special credentials and from time to time I still offer Silk Road Astrology Readings – highly personalized, hand-and-soul-crafted for each person who consults me.

Saturn and Uranus * Great Rulers Of Aquarius

Meet the two giants, Saturn, the second one in the picture next to simply enormous Jupiter, and Uranus (turquoise) third in the picture, next to lovely blue Neptune. These four dwarf the other planets of our solar system. What makes Saturn and Uranus so interesting is that they are the co-rulers, in a very strange partnership indeed, of the Sign of Aquarius.

Since we are moving into an Age of Aquarius this Sign concerns us all, not to mention the fact that each of us also has the Sign of Aquarius somewhere in our Birth Charts.  The House Aquarius falls in or demarcates will be a place of experimentation, rebellion, creativity, a source of depression and frustration – and perhaps also of visionary leadership.

Likewise, we all have the planetary rulers of Aquarius – Saturn and Uranus – in our Birth Charts, in mathematical relation to each other as well as to other important features of our charts.  So, depending on the position of these powerful planets, and the House Aquarius falls in, some folks may actually be more Aquarian than the Sun Sign they were actually born under.

And Saturn and Uranus are an odd couple indeed – Saturn so uptight, rigid and habit-driven, Uranus such a free, rebellious spirit for whom habit is a kind of death.

Lessons From India’s Successful One-Year Anti-Farm Law Protests

A huge convoy of vehicles camping out in the capital and other major cities to protest in action what was imposed without democratic consent; thousands of men and women from all walks of life giving up their day jobs to follow the convoys, determined to help out in any way they could; mainstream media and governments demonizing and demeaning the protestors, painting them ignorant, led by outsiders – impossible they could be doing all this by themselves…

Governments stubbornly refused to recognize that where significant dissent exists, government must be a process of compromise, not imposed – “the majority” can also be a tyranny.

India’s Farmers End Anti-Farm Law Protests after a year...

Sound familiar? Yes, but this was not the Canadian Freedom Convoy of truckers protesting vaccine mandates and other issues in Canadian politics. This happened in a huge democracy, far, far away…

Dreaming Aquarius In Dark Times * Are We Living in the Kali Yuga?

As I update this older post, the war in Ukraine has cast a great dark shadow over the wrold. Yes, there have been, and continue to be, other wars, to test our faith in humanity’s progress since the end of the Cold War.

Yet this one – the new Hitler-style eruption of Putin’s Russia – strikes deep within the core of what we had believed was western civilization and its tarnished but still hopeful commitment to freedom, human rights, the rule of law, and the protection and nurturing of identities – national and personal.

For here we are…in truly dark times not seen since World War 2. What happened to the Age of Aquarius? Or are we just discovering its true features now, when all the sentimental songs and slogans have faded, mere memories of an aging generation?

Before this Age of Aquarius passes, it is my prediction – as prophecy and political science  –  that western civilization is on the verge of collapse – that peoples of the West will find themselves experiencing the karma of the West under a Kali Yuga Age of Aquarius. They too will be  caught up in weakened, corrupt, inept and increasingly authoritarian governments; they will see food shortages; mass migrations to escape conflict and climate change will uproot the many, not to mention grass roots violence and the formation of new, unstable, unpredictable communities.

And if my dreams are prophetic, as I reluctantly believe they might be, then it is not too extreme to suggest that the threat of nuclear holocaust will become grim reality…
